The PlagPointer Research Team is a dedicated group of specialists, including computer scientists, software developers, and academic integrity experts. Our team leaders include: Dr Alex Smith PhD: Alex specialises in efficient algorithms and complexity analysis. Alex is known for developing resource-efficient algorithms. He earned early recognition for solving a challenging theoretical problem in computability and has since focused on designing algorithms that optimise time and memory usage. Alex’s work often deals with the mathematical aspects of algorithm design, and he collaborates internationally to improve algorithmic efficiency across software systems. Wei Zhang PhD: Wei specialises in artificial intelligence and machine learning (with an emphasis on adversarial AI security). Wei has worked in both academia and industry. He specialises in adversarial machine learning – the study of attacks on and defenses for AI models – and has also bridged high-performance computing with AI applications in his work. Wei’s expertise includes developing robust deep learning algorithms and addressing vulnerabilities in AI systems. He has published widely on AI security and scalable machine learning. Priya Singh PhD: Priya is an expert in Natural Language Processing (NLP) for text mining and low-resource languages. She has a strong machine learning background and has developed NLP models for tasks like sentiment analysis and language translation. Priya is particularly interested in applying NLP techniques to a wide range of languages and domains. She has also collaborated on projects such as automatic image captioning that combine computer vision and NLP to describe images in text. As a professor and mentor, she supervises new researchers in AI and regularly publishes in top NLP conferences. Fatima Khan PhD: Fatima has a specialisation in NLP-driven plagiarism detection systems. She has dedicated her career to combating academic plagiarism through technology. Originally from Pakistan and now based in the UK, she develops AI-assisted tools that automatically detect copied or paraphrased text. Fatima's research spans natural language processing and ethics in AI, as she works to improve the accuracy of plagiarism detection software and uphold academic integrity. She has helped design systems where NLP techniques play a central role in identifying plagiarism by combining linguistic analysis with AI algorithms. In addition, Fatima collaborates with universities internationally on plagiarism prevention initiatives.
